My friend Sophie started a Stitch ‘n’ Bitch group at the gorgeous Old Town Hall in my hometown. I had to go of course; though I didn’t know how to knit, stitch, or anything like that at all, I love being surrounded by such a creative atmosphere. So I baked up some cookies and headed down for the first time.
It was amazing. Maybe it was something to do with the setting (such a beautiful old building does tend to make everything more enjoyable) or maybe it was that there was such a pleasant group of people all coming together. I didn’t get to stay long but in the ninety minutes I was there, two people worked together to show me how to knit and I managed a small white square that was vastly unimpressive. I was, however, instantly addicted.
Since then I haven’t stopped. On a shopping trip I grabbed a few skeins of yarn from a sweet little shop and began knitting on the train home with my mum’s help. She doesn’t remember much of how to do it but by the time we got to my sister’s house we were both really into it. I’ve knitted at work, at home, on the bus, and everywhere in between. I can’t stop! I’ve been using cheep yarn to knit little squares just to try out different kinds of stitches but I only began to make something real in the last couple of days.
It’s a scarf for my girlfriend. Garter stitch, nothing extravagant. It’s as simple as simple can be but it’s turning out okay. There was another Stitch ‘n’ Bitch today, two weeks after the first, and I’ve come a long way in that time.
I can’t wait to see what else I can create!
