Lots of uses for Dorset Buttons

As you know, I tried out making Dorset buttons last week as a link to my own past. I’ve spent some time looking at what other people do with them and my mind… is blown. There are SO MANY uses for Dorset buttons. Excuse me while I find a hundred plastic bone rings, I’ve found my new fleeting obsession.

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling pretty inspired right about now.

  1. I’m now wondering if I can find small enough “bone” rings to make Dorset buttons for my latest (Elizabeth Zimmerman) Baby Surprise Jacket. I’ve often crocheted buttons for them in the past, but I’m not altogether satisfied with the way the crocheted buttons wear on that jacket.
Make the tiny buttons with embroidery floss to match the jacket–or with silk, that’s pretty hard wearing and would slide in and out of the buttonholes very nicely–and maybe I’ve got something?
    Hmmmmm….
    You’ve inspired me!

  2. They are pretty gorgeous, I’m loving the trees. My husband has a phobia of buttons but I’m thinking these are so far removed from the plastic ones that make him ill that I might be able to get away with introducing buttons back into my life 🙂 Thanks for highlighting them for me.
