Forgotten Knits

On Sunday it hit -17 degrees Celcius with windchill, so I rooted around in the closet for my snow pants in preparation for a dog walk. I could have worn tights under jeans as I usually would (I save the snowpants for -25 and below), but that would have meant taking off my pyjama bottoms. Snowpants hide them. My laziness is impressive sometimes.

I found the snowpants after some searching, but more importantly I found a box full of all my knitted items I’d stashed away when winter ended last year. There are two cowls and a shawl tucked away in there, all of which I’d completely forgotten, as well as the fancy orange shawl/cowl/thing that is still the prettiest thing I’ve ever knit.

At first I wondered how I could forget such pretty things, but then I remembered that Ontario is humid and awful in the summer to the point where for sanity’s sake it’s best to pretend clothes as a whole don’t exist, let alone natural fibre things designed to increase your body heat.

I’ll be taking them all out and washing/blocking them for use soon.

Have you ever forgotten a bunch of your knitted items? Just me?

  1. Sorry I had to stop reading after the bit about having to wear your snow pants over your pajama bottoms. I was laughing so hard I was crying. I did a similar thing this weekend – snow pants with nightgown tucked in. I was warm as toast and comfortable to boot. 🙂 Seriously though, I love getting my hat/mitten box out in the fall and seeing all the things I had forgotten I made. But I never forgot anything as lovely as that shawl!

    1. Oh, man. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Well, I know I’m not since I got the idea from my girlfriend! I haven’t got around to getting out the shawls I have tucked away to wash them but hopefully I’ll have time this weekend. It’s like past me left future me a gift. 🙂

  2. I’ve not had a chance yet, I’ve a hamper of wool that I’ve forgotten about though. That shawl is beautiful. How could you bear to put it away? I’d have mounted it on the wall as a rather fancy wall hanging 🙂

    1. I’m weird about my knits – I am very practical with them even if they’re pretty. That orange shawl is quite a bit more ratty and felted than it was, because I used it A LOT last year. I’m going to wash and block it though and see what it looks like after. 🙂

  3. I have a whole basket of light shawls that have gone unworn for way too long. I used to parade them all in my over-airconditioned office, but since I’ve changed jobs, I just don’t reach for them as often. Glad you rediscovered your knitted treasure-trove!

    1. As we said on Thursday, that’s cause you were off sunning yourself in tropical climes when it was attached to my neck 🙂 I probably won’t have it with me tomorrow, but maybe I’ll have time to wash it on Saturday.

    1. It is Brandywine. I can’t go get the link right now and I can’t remember the designer, but that’s the name of the pattern. I had it queued for years before I knit it. Oooh it would look lovely in blackberry 🙂

  4. I don;t think I’ve ever forgotten FOs, although I spent a wonderful summer having forgotten about the baby blanket I was to be making (it was in storage, I wasn’t not working on it by forgetting about it)
